Ib Antoni is perhaps one of the most popular poster artists. His most famous designs are of the clown Charlie Rivel, The Little Mermaid and the guardsmen of the Royal Lifeguard – but these are just some of the many posters he created before his death in 1973. After his death, production stopped until, in collaboration with art photographer Mikael Hauberg, his nephew Anton Antoni got the idea of reprinting the many familiar motifs. And it was with great joy and awe we were approached by the pair, who wanted us to print posters of the Danish cultural treasure.
We bring The Little Mermaid safely ashore
Reproducing Ib Antoni’s famous style was a huge undertaking. First of all, the photographs of the originals required quite a bit of reproduction work, as the ravages of time and the dust of a basement, had left their mark on some of the original posters. The posters have been printed in the highest quality and with respect for the originals, on an uncoated type of paper. This produces the warm look which, together with the golden details for which Ib Antoni is famous, adds a touch of cosiness and nostalgia to the image. The golden details, such as the Little Mermaid’s tail, are in Pantone colours. The result is beautiful posters, formed in a fruitful and close cooperation with Anton Antoni and Mikael Hauberg. With great faith in us, they have followed the reproduction work and printing closely.
